69 More Dormitories Declared Cleared Of Covid-19

  1. 69 more dormitories have been cleared of COVID-19 with effect from today. These comprise three Purpose-Built Dormitory (PBD), 59 Factory-Converted Dormitories and seven Construction Temporary Quarters. In addition, 41 Blocks for Recovered Workers (BRWs) in 11 PBDs have been cleared (see MOM website for latest list).

  2. The 41 BRWs cleared today includes the remaining blocks in Tampines Dormitory, Cochrane Lodge 1, Cochrane Lodge 2, Changi Lodge 2 as well as Sungei Tengah Lodge, allowing these dormitories to be fully cleared of COVID-19. This takes the total number to 891 dormitories and 56 BRWs in 17 PBDs cleared of COVID-19.  In particular, Sungei Tengah Lodge is the largest PBD with around 16,000 workers, all of whom can immediately return to work if their employers have obtained approval from their sector agencies to restart operations.

  3. As of 20 July 2020, about 247,000 workers have either recovered, or have been tested to be free from the virus. Some of the workers are pending movement to appropriate accommodations before they can resume work. Others can return to work once dormitory operators, employers and workers have made the necessary preparations to complete the three required steps1 that will help minimise the risk of new infections as the workers go to work on a daily basis. Most of the dormitories completed the steps in a week or less.

  4. The ITF is also progressively implementing the additional decontamination measures to allow more recovered workers from uncleared blocks/dormitories to resume work safely, without compromising public health. Employers will be able to check the AccessCode details of their workers through the Safe@Work eService on MOM’s website.

    FURTHER ADVISORY
  5. The Forward Assurance and Support Teams (FAST) are working closely with dormitory operators, employers and migrant workers to complete all the necessary steps and clear the remaining dormitories. Employers can refer to the MOM website for the latest list of cleared dormitories and dormitories to be cleared in the coming weeks.

  6. As we continue to gradually resume work, we urge all dormitory operators, employers and workers to remain vigilant and ensure that the Safe Working and Safe Living measures are rigorously followed.

FOOTNOTE

  1. 1 Refer to MOM’s press release on 10 June 2020 for the details of the three steps.
